Housing While it would be impossible to mention every development in Solon, here is some basic information on some of the larger ones. This page should be a great starting point for you, but if you want to learn more, we will be happy to provide you with anything you need. Remember, nothing can replace having a knowledgeable real estate agent working for you. Membership to Signature Country Club is a requirement for anyone buying a home in Signature of Solon. Signature has a professionally designed 18 hole golf course, tennis courts, a pool, and one of the largest clubhouses in the state allowing for casual or fine dining, private rooms for intimate dining, or large rooms perfect for wedding, bar-mitzvahs or large corporate gatherings.
THORNBURY – Thornbury is a picturesque upscale non-golf course community with over 250 newer homes situated on beautiful lots of at least .5 acres. Home prices range from $550,000+.All homes in Thornbury have been built within the last 8 years with some new construction and lots still available. Sidewalks and location make this a very desirable community.
THE PRESERVE – Like many other large subdivisions, The Preserve was also built in two phases with most homes here being built in the early to mid 1990’s. A large development with sidewalks, homes here range in value from $350,000-$550,000. ROLLINGBROOK -- One of the most distinguished developments in Solon boasting homes on at least 5 acres of land. The homes here were built in the 1980’s and are priced from $650,000 + but rarely come up on the market. Located next to Signature of Solon, this development is truly a gem of Solon. TIMBER TRAILS – A smaller subdivision located off Liberty Road, the homes here were built in the 1990’s. Timber Trails features many custom built homes with lots on between .5-1 acres. Prices range from $400,000-$650,000. HERITAGE LANDING – Located conveniently off SOM Center Road, this subdivision consists of two housing styles. Part of the development contains single-family homes on about .5 acres built in the mid 1990’s and range in price from $400,000-$550,000. The newer portion of Heritage contains cluster homes built after 2000 that sit on approximately .25 acres. Many of the homes here have master bedrooms on the first floor and are considered lower maintenance as the monthly fee associated with them covers lawn care and snow removal.
NORTH PARK -- Premiere upscale North Solon development. Homes built within the last 7 years situated on large lots ( .75 acres+ ) and priced mainly in the 700’s, 800’s, and 900’s. Impressive finishes and upgrades abound in these fine Solon luxury homes. NORTH HILL – Unique development in the heart of North Solon. With homes built in the 1960’s and 70’s, North Hill offers homes with unbelievable charm set on beautifully wooded 1 acre lots. A true neighborhood development in every sense boasting it’s own pool, tennis courts, and calendar of social events just for North Hill residents. Not your typical Solon development. Prices range from $375,000-$575,000. BRIAR HILL – With homes built in the late 1940’s and 50’s, this development offers old world charm on park-like 1-3 acre lots. Boasting it’s own pond for swimming and recreation, Briar Hill offers a bit of the country living in the heart of Solon. Homes prices range from $250,000-$500,000. SOM HILLS – Offering large homes built mainly in the mid 1980’s, this development is desired for the location and feel of the neighborhood. Home priced range from $350,000-$550,000. AYLESHIRE – Homes built in the mid to late 1990’s. Great neighborhood feel and in walking distance to the Solon Recreation Center. Homes in Ayleshire range in price from $350,000-$550,000.
Schools In June 2009, Newsweek named the Solon Schools as one of the top school systems in the nation. Solon consistently ranks among the top schools in Ohio and the nation in standardized testing. Solon achieved a rating of 108.6 on the Ohio state performance index in 2007, the second-highest in the state. Solon has also won awards as a Blue Ribbon School. The Blue Ribbon award is considered to be the highest honor that an American school can achieve.The diversity of Solon Schools is a big draw for those relocating to the area.

Recreation and Activities When it comes to recreation, there is no shortage of things to do in Solon. The shining star of the community is the new state of the art Community Center featuring an indoor and outdoor pool, rock climbing wall, several exercise areas, and an entire schedule of aerobic and wellness classes. It also has banquet facilities available, suitable for birthday parties, small gatherings, weddings and Bar Mitzvahs. There is also a babysitting room for busy parents looking for a workout. Membership is inexpensive for residents and the ideal place to be for active families. Another community gem is the Solon Center for the Arts ( SCA ) (which is located in the heart of Solon, next door to City Hall. Many local young actors and musicians get their start right here. Children can take classes in Art, Acting, music, and even magic. The SCA offers great after school programs with buses taking kids to the center directly from school. The Solon Center for the Arts even boasts its very own theater with top of the line productions like Beauty and the Beast, Guys and Dolls, and Showboat!
The Solon area also offers great parks and playgrounds. Solon Community Park is a great place to spend quality time with young children and the nearby pavilion offers a huge space that can accommodate large crowds for many different events. The pavilion is available for Solon residents to reserve for almost any special occasion.
For those who love golf, Northeast Ohio boasts more golf courses than almost any other area in the country. Solon even has its very own golf course, Grantwood, that offers an 18 hole course and a heated driving range open all year round. The Solon location of the Cleveland Metroparks System has several locations near and around Solon that offer great walking and biking paths for summer fun as well as sledding and cross-country skiing for winter activities. If you are in the mood to see a brand new movie release, the Solon Cinemas is the place to go. Solon also has a totally renovated bowling center in Freeway Lanes offering excitement for all ages. Whether you want to bowl, play in the arcade, play pool, watch a sporting event, or even host a large party, Solon Freeway Lanes is one of the most popular party places around. Solon offers its residents a little bit of everything in terms of casual dining. We have Chinese restaurants, Imperial Wok, and Hunan of Solon, places to go for breakfast, Bob Evans, Chicago Deli, D and R bagels, Panera Bread, and Jim’s Open Kitchen, Solon also offers one of the area’s most popular Italian restaurants, Jimmy Daddona’s. Other popular casual dining spots include, the American Tavern, know for their great hamburgers, Arabica Coffee House, the Rusty Bucket, Mustard Seed Café (located inside Mustard Seed Market), Station 43 Tavern, Chipotle, and Alesci's.
Located in nearby Bedford, The Winking Lizard Tavern remains one of the most popular places to go as they offer great food at affordable prices and a fun atmosphere. While known for the award-winning bar-b-q sauce on their chicken and ribs, all of the food on their extensive menu is great. Plus, it is one of the most kid friendly restaurants in the area. They also offer multiple big screen TVs for watching sporting events and just about any kind of beer imaginable, so adults enjoy it just as much as the kids. Everybody loves the Winking Lizard and they also offer take-out and catering.
Neighboring Chagrin Falls is home to one the area’s finest restaurants. Gamekeeper’s Tavern is located in the heart of Chagrin Falls and offers cozy fireside dining along with an award winning outdoor courtyard. The great food, unique atmosphere and great service keep any patron coming back. A consistently great dining experience. Although not restaurants, no meal is complete without ice cream, and Solon boasts some of the area’s finest ice cream parlors. Mitchell’s Ice Cream is made right here in Cleveland and was recently voted Cleveland’s Best. Although popular year round, it is the place to be on a warm summer evening where you are sure to see someone you know. Another Cleveland area ice cream staple is East Coast Custard also located conveniently in Solon. For people who love soft serve ice cream, East Coast Custard is the best, offering different flavors daily. Diary Queen also has a location in Solon and is always popular. Solon has it all when it comes to local shopping. Solon offers grocery shopping at Giant Eagle in Solar Shopping Center, and Mustard Seed Market and Café is a great place to go for natural and organic foods . Nearby Market Place shopping center is a convenient location to shop at some of your favorite places such as Home Depot, Pet Smart, Target, Walmart, Kohl’s, Michaels, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Babies “R”Us, Marshalls, Linens-n-Things, The Flower Vendor, and many other stores. Aurora Farms Premium Outlets provides a great opportunity to get name brand items as a huge discount.
Within minutes of Solon are some of the best shopping destinations in the entire Cleveland Metropolitan area. Eton Chagrin Blvd is located in Woodmere, just outside of Pepper Pike and Beachwood and is always a popular place to shop and dine. It has well known stores such as Barnes and Noble, one of the nation’s largest bookstores and Trader Joes, a store/market known for its organic food selection, extensive and affordable wine department, and fun atmosphere. Eaton also offers fine dining options. Pacific East Japanese Restaurant offers some of the area’s best sushi. Located right next door is Paladar, one of the area’s hottest restaurants. Paladar offers great atmosphere and a unique menu that you won’t find anywhere else. The food is a mix of Latin Caribbean and Cuban and is sure to please any palate. Paladar is a huge fan favorite of the Schuman Team. Village Square Shopping Center, just down the street, rounds out some of the best shopping destinations in the state.
Community Events Community Info and Links Solon is an outstanding location within which to work as it has a vibrant business community and highly active Chamber of Commerce boasting over 500 members! Solon also has one of the most progressive and distinctive industrial areas in the county. Solon also has an active PTA and early childhood PTA that offers activities such as Soccer in the fall and T-Ball in the Spring for boys and girls between the ages of 3-5. The early childhood PTA also offers events for adults as well that let’s moms and dads get together to have some fun. The Solon branch of the Cleveland Public Library system is conveniently located near the Community Center and Solon Park. Geographically, Solon is located in the southeastern portion of Cuyahoga County, Ohio’s largest county, and has a population of about 22,000. Solon is very popular as it is only minutes away from the cultural amenities of Cleveland and a short drive to Cleveland Hopkins International Airport. Solon is located near the borders of 2 other counties, Geauga County on the east and Summit County on the south. Neighboring communities include, Orange, Moreland Hills, Bentleyville, Bedford Heights, Aurora, Glenwillow, Oakwood, and Twinsburg.
While many of Cleveland’s older residents remember Solon as predominantly farm land, it has achieved tremendous growth over the last 40 years. The first settlers in Solon Township arrived from Connecticut in 1820. The township was named after Lorenzo Solon Bull who was the son of Isaac Bull, one of the first settlers. The area was popular for growing corn and wheat. In addition, 5 cheese factories were built, creating a profitable dairy business. In 1850 the population of Solon was 1,034. The coming of the railroads contributed greatly to Solon's growth. In 1857, the Cleveland-Youngstown section of the Cleveland & Mahoning Railroad opened a route through Solon. The main road was Som Center Road, so named because it passed through the centers of Solon, Orange, and Mayfield townships. Solon was incorporated as a village in 1917 and became a city in 1961, operated under the mayor-council form of government. One hundred fifty businesses have located to Solon over the last 75 years, ranging in size from small shops to industries employing over 1,000. Industry has traditionally contributed more than 50% of the tax base. Some of the largest area employers includes Nestle’, Swagelock, L’Oreal, King Nut Company, and Venture Lighting. The city's population increased from 6,333 in 1960 to 11,519 in 1970, and 14,341 in 1980.
