Home values in Moreland Hills range from $250,000-$2,000,000+. The average sale price of a home in Moreland Hills in 2008 was $483,925, with the average market time being 130 days.  Moreland Hills has mainly single-family homes, many situated on mature lots of over 2 acres.

Although Moreland Hills has very few newer subdivisions, there are numerous luxury home developments that are very desirable such as Pebblebrook, Twin Acre Estates, Hunting valley Farms, and Stonewood Estates. 

Schools

The children of Moreland Hills for the most part attend the excellent rated Orange school district.  There are a few areas of Moreland Hills that fall into the Chagrin Falls school district, also rated excellent.

Moreland Hills is perfectly located near some of the best shopping in all of Northeastern Ohio. Whether you are looking for a major department store, a specialty store, or a quick bite to eat, everything you need can be found in or near Moreland Hills.

Beachwood Place has long been considered northeast Ohio’s premier fashion destination for the best in shopping, entertainment and dining. Beachwood Place has anchor stores of Saks Fifth Avenue, Nordstrom, and Dillards, along with name brand stores, a food court, and restaurants for fine dining.

La Place, located right next to Beachwood Place  is a nice, small, upscale mall located in Beachwood. It has a nice selection of businesses such as Border’s Books, and restaurants such as Sushi Rock, a favorite hot spot, Melange, and Mitchell’s Ice Cream voted Cleveland’s best. 

Legacy Village is a lifestyle center located just outside Beachwood in Lyndhurst, and was built within the last 5 years. Legacy Village offers a wide assortment of shops, restaurants and scheduled events that offers fun for everyone. Whether you need to pick up a quick gift for a friend, are looking for a fun-filled day of shopping, planning a business lunch or a fun night out with friends, Legacy Village has it all. Popular stores here are Dick’s Sporting Goods, Nordstrom Rack, Arhaus Furniture, Joseph-Beth Booksellers, Cheescake Factory, California Pizza Kitchen, and Starbucks Coffee.

Eton Chagrin Blvd  is located in neighboring Woodmere, just outside of Pepper Pike and is always a popular place to shop. It has well known stores such as Barnes and Noble, one of the nation’s largest bookstores and Trader Joes, a store/market known for its organic food selection, extensive and affordable wine department, and fun atmosphere.  Eaton also offers fine dining options as well.  Village Square Shopping Center, just down the street, rounds out some of the best shopping destinations in the state.

For your grocery shopping, Heinens is conveniently located in Landerwood Plaza just off Pinetree Road.  You will find the best organic food at Trader Joes in Eaton and Wholefoods Market in Village Square Shopping Center are great options.

Restaurants

Moxie, also located in Beachwood is consistently a great place to go for a great night out and is also a popular spot for all the movers and shakers during lunchtime. The atmosphere is upbeat and the crowd is usually loud and lively.  Moxie’s sister restaurant Red Steakhouse is known by many to have the best steaks in town.

Hyde Park Steakhouse located in Beachwood is consistently rated by the Zagat guide as one of the area’s best steakhouses, Marabella located in Pepper Pike is known for having outstanding Spanish food, Peppermint Tai Cuisine offers great Tai food and is located in Landerbrook Plaza in Pepper Pike.

Eton Chagrin Blvd shopping center, located just outside of Orange, offers numerous great restaurants such as Pacific East Japanese Restaurant.  Located right next door is Paladar, one of the area’s hottest restaurants. Paladar offers great atmosphere and a unique menu that you won’t find anywhere else. The food is a mix of Latin Caribbean and Cuban and is sure to please any palate. Paladar is a huge fan favorite of the Schuman Team.

Beachwood Place Mall offers two of the most popular national restaurants in Maggiano’s and McCormick and Schmick’s. Maggiano’s offers upscale family style Italian food with great offerings and an atmosphere to match. Whether you go in a small group or sit down with a large gathering, bring your appetite because the portions are more than generous. McCormick and Schmick’s specialized in fresh seafood and offers just about every type of fish imaginable prepared just to your liking.

If you are looking for the best deli in the area, Corky and Lenny’s, located just outside Pepper Pike in Village Square Shopping Center in Woodmere, is famous for its food not only in Cleveland but throughout the country. Dignitaries, politicians and a lot of regular folks make a point to stop in to Corky and Lenny’s whenever they are in the neighborhood.  In fact, many drive from far distances just to get a taste of one of the countries best delis.

A great place for breakfast is The Original Pancake House located on Chagrin Boulevard. The portions are huge so go hungry.  For a fun family experience,  The Winking Lizard Tavern located in Bedford remains one of the most popular places to go as they offer great food at affordable prices and a fun atmosphere. While known for the award-winning bar-b-q sauce on their chicken and ribs,  all of the food on their extensive menu is great. Plus, it is one of the most kid friendly restaurants in the area. They also offer multiple big screen TVs for watching sporting events and just about any kind of beer imaginable, so adults enjoy it just as much as the kids. Everybody loves the Winking Lizard and they also offer take-out and catering.

While we have shown there is no shortage of great food in close proximity to Moreland Hills, those looking for a fine dining experience can also find some of the best dining around within a 20-30 minute drive. To start, The Leopard Restaurant, located inside the luxurious Bertram Inn in Aurora offers an award-winning menu and has won 5 consecutive 4-Diamond awards. Blue Canyon in Twinsburg offers a fine dining experience in a unique atmosphere inside and is one of the most popular places to dine in the summer as the outdoor patio and bar area is packed on most weekend evenings.

Vue Restaurant and Downtown 140 in Hudson are both critically acclaimed restaurants providing  a special night out of fine dining and wonderful atmosphere. Nearby Chagrin Falls is home to one the area’s finest restaurants. Gamekeeper’s Tavern is located in the heart of Chagrin Falls and offers cozy fireside dining along with an award winning outdoor courtyard. The great food, unique atmosphere and great service keep any patron coming back. 

Recreation

The Cleveland Metroparks system is one of the most interconnected and extensive city park systems in the United States. The South Chagrin Reservation goes through parts of nearby Moreland Hills and offers great hiking, biking and bridle trails.  The Metroparks also have 7 golf courses, with Shawnee Hills located in nearby Bedford, and Manakiki located in Willoughby Hills. Nearby Pepper Pike Park was dedicated in 1999 and contains playground equipment, picnic tables and benches, a volleyball court, and an ice rink.

Neighboring Orange Village has a 52 acre park which includes nature preserves with a half mile of paved trails, two baseball fields with bleachers and back stops, an ice skating area, tether ball, volleyball, and two tot lots with picnic pavilions, tables and grills, as well as a newer municipal facility. The Orange Village Community Park’s playground is very popular with young children and is located off Pike Drive, just off Lander Road. There are other great parks close to Moreland Hills. Nearby Solon offers great parks and playgrounds.

Preston’s H.O.P.E. ( Helping Others Play and Enjoy ), located in nearby Beachwood, offers local children another alternative. This particular playground is designed to allow children with a variety of disabilities to play with their families and other children, the first such playground in Northeast Ohio.  The 60,000 square feet playground is packed with play structures on multiple levels connected by ramps. Activity panels with lively motion activated music are found throughout on walls, pathways, and on play structures.  Nearby Beachwood also has a beautiful City Park which has 1.6 mi of trails perfect for bicycling, walking, and running. There is also a great playground located next door to the family aquatic center on Fairmount Boulevard.

Entertainment

The Solon Cinemas is a convenient place to go to see the best new releases.  Chagrin Cinemas with 14 screens is also located near Moreland Hills.  Shaker Square Cinemas  and Regal Theaters in Mayfield Heights are also nearby theaters that offer new releases. The Cedar Lee Theater, located in nearby Cleveland Heights offers the best in independent films.

Nearby Solon also has a totally renovated bowling center in Freeway Lanes offering excitement for all ages. Whether you want to bowl, play in the arcade, play pool, watch a sporting event, or even host a large party, Solon Freeway Lanes is one of the most popular party places around.

The Golf Dome, located in nearby Chagrin Falls right next door to the Chagrin Cinemas, offers an indoor driving range that is open year round. They also have outdoor batting cages, miniature golf and offer summer camps.

During the summer, Hiram House Camp is located in Moreland Hills and is a very popular place for local children to go to summer camp. Here, kids get a feel for the real camp experience as they swim, go horseback ridding, hike, and canoeing. There are programs for children ages 5-11and the camp fills up very quickly.

History

The village of Moreland Hills is a 7.5 sq. mi. residential suburb located approx. 14 miles east of Cleveland. It is one of the most affluent suburbs in the Metropolitan Cleveland area and is famous as being the birthplace of James A. Garfield, the 20th president of the United States. Moreland Hills is one of 7 communities that formed out of the original Orange Twp that was established in 1820.  During the 19th century, the area now considered Moreland Hills was known for its steam sawmills, cheese factories, and productive farms. Beginning in 1897, the Cleveland-Chagrin Falls Railway contributed to the suburban development of Moreland Hills.  The village began to change to a predominantly residential suburb with the subdivision of home sites in 1935 by real-estate developer Robert L. Stern. The population of Moreland Hills was 141 in 1930 and has grown to about 3300 as of 2000. Moreland Hills borders Bentleyville, Chagrin Falls, Hunting Valley, Orange, Pepper Pike, and Solon.  Moreland Hills has recreational facilities, churches, service clubs, polo fields, and riding trails for horses.
